Since our founding in 2009, we have expanded to have offices in Amsterdam, New York, Paris, London, Shanghai, Tokyo and Singapore. The Japanese subsidiary was established in 2024 to focus on the Japanese market and fulfill the ACT Group's commitment.  

The Role – Originator, Japan 

As an Originator at ACT Group in Japan, you will play a key role in developing and executing trading opportunities across carbon and environmental products, with a particular focus on Japan’s renewable energy and GX-related markets. You will work closely with Japanese asset owners, corporate clients and internal sales team to originate deals, support structured transactions, and contribute to the growth of ACT’s client base in Japan and the wider region. 

This role sits at the intersection of origination, trading, and market development. You will engage clients with market insights, identify trading and investment opportunities, and support revenue generation through both opportunistic and structured transactions.  

In essence, your role involves:

• Originate and execute trading of renewable energy certificates (Non-fossil Certificate/Green Energy Certificate/Japan I-REC/Clean Gas Certificate), carbon offsets and other environmental products (J Credit, JCM Credit) , including GX-related instruments, in Japan and the broader Asia region 
• Engage directly with asset owners and the other traders on the market, pitching market ideas and trading opportunities 
• Support discussions with offtakers around demand, pricing, and deal execution (in coordination with senior team members) 
• Work closely with internal teams across corporate sales, primary supply, and trading to ensure seamless execution of transactions 
• Identify and develop new client relationships, contributing to the expansion of ACT’s Japanese market presence 
• Stay up to date with regulatory, market, and product developments in Japan’s energy, power, and carbon markets 
• Contribute market intelligence and insights to support trading and strategy decisions  

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and attributes:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, preferably in Business, Economics, Finance, Energy, Sustainability, or a related field 
• Fluent in Japanese and English (ideally) 
• 5- 8 years’ experience in a power/commodities trading, asset management, or commercial roles 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust-based client relationships 
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, performance-driven, multi-cultural environment 
• Resilient mindset, open to feedback, and willing to learn through trial and error 
• Good team player: Proactive, entrepreneurial, and able to take initiative
